Interview with Bonnie Porter-Greene.
Tell us a bit about your background and work
My working life is quite diverse, and this might make me seem like I’m all over the shop, but having variety in my working week keeps all the creative juices flowing! It also allows time to be bored, which is really important for creatives.
I’m predominantly a painter - but always involved in an array of creative projects, from collaborations with poets, small business owners, community groups, preschools & photographers. I take my work seriously but am a big believer that personality must carry through with my clients and projects – I’m a real person and I want to share laughs with you when we work together!
What does it mean for you to have a new contemporary arts festival in your home town/area?
Anything that gets the community out and together, perhaps a little uncomfortable with a dash of joy - lights me up. To personally know and connect with the high calibre creatives that are on board is really uplifting and, as we get closer to OpenField, I’m excited to see how artists may work together or play off each other’s creativity.
What’s been the highlight of your career to date?
Being signed on as a represented artist for the first time. Working with James Kerr from Gallery Jennings Kerr has really been a highlight for me.
Any early hints on what you might be planning for the festival next June?
I’m conjuring up some sneaky, cheeky hidden artworks.
